The Winter Passing
At the heart of alt. indie/emo outfit The Winter Passing is brother and sister Rob and Kate Flynn, who have been playing music together since they were 14 and 12, respectively. Growing up together the two shared a love of punk and indie crossover bands such as The Get Up Kids, The Anniversary, Weezer, The Replacements, and Sonic Youth, the influence of which is present in their songwriting.
The Irish quartet spent the last year and a half touring internationally, sharing stages with Touché Amore, Modern Baseball, Gnarwolves, Balance and Composure, and embarking on a sold out UK tour with Moose Blood, before heading to the States to record their new EP - Double Exposure - with legendary producer J. Robbins (Against Me!, The Promise Ring, Texas Is The Reason, Jets To Brazil).
The band’s new offering is a departure from their critically acclaimed debut album A Different Space of Mind, which was co-released in 2015 by 6131 and FITA Records. The brand new tracks are increasingly more dynamic sonically, with the band's indie influences rising to the surface, while lyrically the songs are soul-baring, and deeply personal.
Guitarist and vocalist Rob explains: "This record is a lot more personal than any of our previous work. The songs touch on mental health and well-being themes, a central point being the anxiety caused by stability and instability in your life and dealing with your ability to ‘be ok’. This time the writing is more personal to each of us individually, and from a new stand-point in each other's lives in comparison to ‘A Different Space of Mind.’"
The album received wide praise from the likes of Noisey, Rock Sound Magazine and The Irish Times along with a packed show at Ireland’s premiere Music Festival Electric Picnic (alongside Tame Impala, Mac Demarco, Alvvays, Interpol, Blur). 2015 saw the band tour the American East Coast for the first time including appearances in Brooklyn, NY supporting PWR BTTM & Gainesville, FL at THE FEST (Andrew WK, Modern Baseball, Beach Slang, Foxing, TWIABP, Lagwagon, MewithoutYou).
