Tall Ships

Tall Ships released their debut album ‘Everything Touching’ in October, through Big Scary Monsters/Blood and Biscuits, receiving rave reviews from all corners of the press. The album was recorded with producer Jamie Field in Bovey Tracey, Devon and mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless (Battles, LCD Soundsystem, Bon Iver and Arcade Fire).

Tall Ships were included by Zane Lowe in his recent FutureR1 feature, comparing the huge riffs of latest single ‘T=0’ to Deftones and ...Trail of Dead. The track has been receiving attention across the board from 6music, XFM and Amazing Radio and marks a great start to what is destined to be a huge year for Tall Ships. The band head out on tour across the UK, which comes to a close with their biggest headline show to date at Scala, before they head across the pond to showcase at SXSW, followed up by their first headline tour across Europe.

Tall Ships are fast gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting live bands in the UK right now. They tour relentlessly and have honed the show into a thrilling experience, both aurally and visually as layers of sound and vocals are cleverly and deftly assembled to startling effect. On their recent UK tour, Tall Ships performed to sold out venues across the country before completing the tour by performing to a capacity crowd at XOYO, London. They then continued across Europe, in support Nada Surf. They have already supported the likes of We Are Scientists, Metronomy (in Brazil), 65 Days Of Static (throughout Europe), Dry The River, Los Campesinos!, Nada Surf, Maps & Atlases, The Futureheads, Minus The Bear, Three Trapped Tigers & Tubelord.

Tall Ships also completed a very busy festival schedule, as well as headlining the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds they invited mass singalongs at 2000trees and Latitude as well as performing to packed rooms at Camden Crawl, Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape (for which they were one of the Guardian’s bands to see), which saw 2 nights of queues around the block, more mass singalongs and fire alarms being set off. In previous years, Tall Ships have performed at Bestival and also headlined Knee Deep festival in Cornwall.

Previous single ‘Gallop’ marked a progression for the band’s sound, adding almost Morrisey-esque vocals to a typically catchy, building soundtrack forged together by loop pedals and a pounding drum beat. ‘Gallop’ was given a world premiere by the world’s leading music website, Pitchfork, based in Chicago, US. The track was also recently playlisted by BBC Radio1 as part of BBC Introducing, set up to support young bands and has received plays from leading BBC Radio DJ’s Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Annie Mac, Steve Lamacq and Lauren Laverne. The band also recently filmed and released a live session at the historic BBC Maida Vale studios by request of BBC Radio and was hosted on the BBC Radio 1 website. Tall Ships were also recently nominated for two awards (Best New Band and Best Single for ‘Gallop’) at the annual Artrocker Magazine Awards, held in London, at which they performed as the headline act for the evening.

Tall Ships formed in late 2009 in Falmouth, Cornwall, inspired by bands such as Battles, Sigur Rós and Biffy Clyro, they began performing across the country and releasing their debut 4-track self-titled EP in early 2010. Their second EP ‘There Is
Nothing But Chemistry Here’, released in October 2010, established Tall Ships as one of the most exciting bands in the country and they were subsequently labelled as one of the top bands to watch in 2011. They released hit single ‘Hit The Floor’ in May 2011 and began writing and recording tracks for their debut album, which finally saw release earlier this year to extremely high acclaim from press and radio and gaining them many new fans along the way.

"The mathy skronk of Battles, Foals' wounded hearts and The xx's sense of space, all tempered by a freeness of mind that only comes from breathing a dose of sea air each morning" - NME

"Hit The Floor is biting, brilliant and certain to rope you in" - Q

“If there’s one debut album to get excited about this year, it’s Everything Touching” - The 405
