The results are in!

Posted Mon June 20 2011 10:20:19 GMT+0100 (BST)

What a weekend! After an awesome night at The Old Blue Last Friday (thanks so much to The Xcerts, Hold Your Horse Is, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and Rosa Valle for storming sets!) everyone was definitely feeling on top of their game come Saturday and, despite the mental weather, everyone had a great time and played their hearts out, with no reports of broken bones. Yet. The OBL (our last minute entrants) eventually triumphed, beating Disc Manufacturing Services in the final, with a few surprises along the way as all of Group (of death) F all crashed out, Hold Your Horse Is/Stagecoach won the award for most improved team going from a minus 21 goal difference last year to finishing 2nd in their group, above previous winners Punktastic and the formidable Brontide, and Team BSM made it through the group stage with a 100% record and only 3 goals conceded, 2 of which were scored by our own players! Below are all of the results. Photos, videos and charity auctions to follow...

Kick off!

Posted Fri June 17 2011 11:42:17 GMT+0100 (BST)

Can you believe how quickly this has come around? Team BSM have been in training since February and are as ready as we'll ever be for what promises to be a huge weekend!

It all kicks off tonight with our "opening ceremony" at The Old Blue Last with The Xcerts, Hold Your Horse Is, a very special guest and Rosa Valle all playing live, alongside an all-star cast of superstar DJs. We'll be selling copies of our wonderful new compilation CD, t-shirts, asking you lovely people for a small donation and, perhaps most importantly of all, drinking way too much ahead of tomorrows tournament!

The footballing action gets underway at 2pm Saturday when the first 8 of our 24 teams kick off, bidding to win the 5th annual event. We've had a late change with The Old Blue Last stepping in to replace Swn Festival who unfortunately had to drop out, and a number of the teams seem to be struggling with last-minute fitness tests and squad changes.

Spectators are more than welcome along tomorrow so get yourself down to the London City Powerleague centre (there's a bar, don't worry) and be ready to sing your hearts out!

Look out next week for a number of auctions, offering some incredible prizes kindly donated by a number of our teams. These will be posted along with the results, photos and videos from the weekend.

FOOTBALL!

Opening ceremony

Posted Fri June 03 2011 10:51:01 GMT+0100 (BST)

As part of this years charity fundraising plans we've booked up a pretty special tournament opening ceremony to take place the night before the big day, Friday 17th June. Playing live at The Old Blue Last in London will be The Xcerts, Hold Your Horse Is, Rosa Valle and one more secret special guest, alongside DJ sets from Talons, Alcopop, Punktastic and Team BSM's recent star signing, Leigh Shorter. The gig is free and we'll be selling copies of our awesome new 17 track compilation CD (more info on that one coming next week) on the night. The venue have very generously offered a percentage of their upstairs bar takings for the good cause, so come down and drink, drink, drink! More info can be found on the Facebook event page.

The big draw

Posted Fri May 20 2011 16:25:24 GMT+0100 (BST)

The draw for the group stage of this years tournament has been made and thrown up a few very interesting little match-ups. First and foremost there's Group F, AKA The Group Of Death, with back-to-back winners, Fear And Records, previous champions, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, last years losing finalists, Red Bull, and hotly tipped newcomers Top Button Digital all facing off. Interesting clashes elsewhere include Stagecoach going up against their label, Alcopop (whose side includes Coach's drummer!), hosts BSM taking on two of their own in Talons and Tall Ships, as well as long time rivals, Rock Sound, the battle of Wales with Swn Festival being drawn alongside Wichita Records and Group A which is comprised of four newcomers.

More info (as well as the draw video, if it ever finishes uploading!) will be online next week. Training starts... now!

It's go time!

The list of 24 teams entering the Big Scary Monsters 5-a-side tournament can be seen on the left and you'll find more info about the host and our charity for this year via the above menu.

The draw for the group stage takes place on Friday 20th May. The results of which (and a video for evidence!) will be posted online next week. Stay tuned...
