We've all waited a long time for some new material from these guys, but now you can hear for yourself that it was totally worth it. Tellison are back, and here's Stephen to tell us all about it...
Tellison! It's great to see you. You've been pretty quiet over the last few months, what have you been up to?
Hi there. Its great to see you too. We have been a bit quiet and we're sorry about that. The reasons for the quietness are many and varied but here are some of them: we left our old management company Gravity DIP and spent some time meeting new people and wondering what to do next, we went to quite a few different studios and recorded things and listened to them and wondered if they were good, then Henry got a bit sick and needed some time off from carrying things (he's much better now and stronger than ever plus we also have some alarming photos of him in his hospital gown, every cloud...), somewhere in there Stephen finished Uni and stayed in bed for a long time without talking to anyone too. Mostly we've just been writing lots of songs together in Hammersmith on our days off and trying to put together a better record than the last one.
People out there are gagging to hear new music from you, what can they expect from the next album?
Hopefully people will still be interested to hear new Tellison songs. The things we've demoed so far are sounding a bit less ragged and a bit more considered. I think we've been trying to write more intelligent pop songs and make sure every note is there for a reason where before maybe we'd just put our heads down and turn on the overdrive. We still sound like Tellison but we're thinking a bit more and trying to write great songs. Influences for the new record have come from people like Bruce Springsteen, Frightened Rabbit, Phoenix and Pedro the Lion as well as the older faster things.
Who are your favourite new bands around right now?
They ain't too new but I've been listening to bands like Cheap Girls, Constantines, Weakerthans, Hot Club de Paris, Frightened Rabbit, Pheonix, The Hold Steady and Dave Bazan. In terms of brand new bands I really enjoyed a band called The Lie Awakes' debut album and a Canadian band called Land of Talk.
What are your plans for the rest of 2010?
In the next month or so we'll be in the studio making the new record. Then it'll be a case of getting that out, hopefully with some singles and videos and things and gong out on tour forever and ever. Hopefully. We've missed playing live so much over the last year what with one thing and another so we can't wait to get back in our van and hurt our hands all over the country. We're also hoping to get the first album licensed in Europe, the U.S. and a couple of other places so there's potential for us spreading ourselves around a little more. Aside from that I want to buy a new guitar, fix my old guitar and Henry's going to get some new drums. I heard Andy say he was going to get some new shoes too. Then we'll start work on the next record. I think the new shoes might help. Andy always plays best in new shoes.
